| | | Dear Friends of Big Smith,
On the morning of the Columbia space shuttle disaster, February 1st, 2003, my brother wrote a song commemorating the tragedy. Our band was scheduled to play a concert that night at the Juanita K. Hammons Hall for the Performing Arts in our hometown of Springfield, Missouri. I arrived for soundcheck that afternoon and I asked my brother how the band should acknowledge the national tragedy during the performance. Jody pulled the typewritten lyrics out of his pocket and handed it to me. After some discussion, I encouraged him to sing the song that night, which he did. The response from the audience was overwhelming, and many people told us that it was a very healing experience. After a flood of emails and phone calls from people requesting a copy of the song, we decided to record it and make it available as a free download on our website. If you would like a copy on CD, we are selling those at a price that will cover our expenses.
You can order one here, or call (417) 866-0631. We hope that the song brings the same healing to you. Please direct others who you think would like to hear the song to this page. We join the nation with our thoughts and prayers for the astronauts and their families.
Sincerely,
Mark Bilyeu
Big Smith
