Big Smith plays
the Snorty Horse in Springfield this
Thursday Steve Greene, the
jocular and always entertaining manager of the Springfield Red Dirt venue The Snorty Horse,
is celebrating his last weekend as the boss there before he moves on to the
fertile valleys of California to work for Google, Inc. Big Smith just couldn’t
let this go by without playing there one more time. So, we’ll be there this
Thursday, May the 1st (tomorrow) for one last hurrah. The evening
starts early, with doors opening at 7:00 pm and the Chance Ray Band
getting things started at 8:30. Big Smith will start at 9:30 and play until the
snorty horse comes home. The Snorty
Horse is located at 3050 N Kentwood Ave, off of Glenstone
Avenue, just north of the I-44 junction. Tickets are $10. This is a non-smoking
show, and is open to everyone 18 and up (younger
if you come with a guardian). You can call (417) 833-6700 for more information.
We salute you, Steve, and wish you much success in your new venture! Big Smith receives
local approval. Finally! Geez! We thank the
readers of GO Magazine
for voting us Best Country/Bluegrass Band for the second year running in
the Music Awards readers’ poll. We will do all we
can this year to continue to be worthy of your vote. Random notes,

emerges from his winter hideout to play First Friday Art Walk The enigmatic,
reclusive, some would say hermetic Dallas Jones will
make a rare live appearance at Well Fed
Head this Friday, May 2nd, as part of downtown
Springfield’s First Friday Art Walk. He’ll be accompanied by Molly Healey
on violin and Kent Shelton on bass. Fans are eagerly awaiting the
release of his new CD, which apparently has gone through a series of setbacks
due to Jones’ volatile temper. Reportedly he destroyed the tapes for the entire
album for a second time when the engineer didn’t understand what Jones meant
when he said that he wanted the reverb to sound like “two oceans meeting.” We
recommend you coming out for this live appearance just to see what this
notoriously unpredictable artist will do; you just never know. This is
free and open to the public. The music will take place between 7 and 9 p.m. The
Well Fed Head is located at 331 S Campbell Ave. You can call (417) 832-9333 for more information. Big Smith to play
the Wakarusa Music and Camping Festival, June 5-8 This is a big one
for us, as Wakarusa is developing into the largest music festival in the
Midwest. There will be some names there you’ll recognize, like Emmylou
Harris, the Flaming Lips, the Avett
Brothers, Leftover Salmon and many, many more. Our festival showcase
will be at in the Revival Tent at 1:30 pm on Thursday, June 5. If you’re so
fortunate to be hanging out in the VIP tent, we’ll also be performing acoustic
there on Wednesday the 4th. Here is the festival’s website.
We’ll keep you updated as the weekend draws near. More Live Music! Below are the live
