Big Smith two-night hometown stand at the Outland Ballroom this weekend

Downtown’s where Big Smith got its start (well, if you don’t include Grandma and Grandpa’s garage, which we probably should) and downtown is where we love to be. We’re going to be holding court there this weekend, in fact. We’ve asked two fine acts to join us on respective nights to make it special: Dallas Jones and his new combo The American Pennyroyals will be with us Friday night; and our good buddies from Fayetteville, Charliehorse, will provide a tough act to follow on Saturday night.

Here are the details for the weekend, please join us!

Friday, April 10

Big Smith performs at The Outland Ballroom, 326 South Ave., in Springfield, MO.  Doors open at 8:00, Dallas Jones and the American Pennyroyals open at 9:00, and Big Smith performs at 10:00 p.m. $10 cover. (417)869-8054

Ha Ha Tonka releases their version of “12 Inch 3 Speed Oscillating Fan”

Formerly known to this label as Amsterband, Ha Ha Tonka has gone on to glorious things with Bloodshot Records. We’re proud that they remember southwest Missouri enough to record our Cousin Scott Young’s song, we just call it “the fan song,” on a vinyl 45 r.p.m. record. You can bring this fine little disk into your home for just $4 by following this link: http://www.bloodshotrecords.com/album/ha-ha-tonka-7. Thanks, fellows, for remembering your roots. Keep an eye out for Tonka’s forthcoming CD, Novel Sounds of the Nouveau South.

We’ve recently relocated our studio and office to a nice place in the country, where prodigious work is currently being done on the new Big Smith CD, and wouldn’t you know it, the ground is crawling with mayapples. That’s the official studio dog, Sophie, in the background. Photo by MayApple Queen Bee Liz Bilyeu.
